Atelier Vierkant

Atelier Vierkant is a family-run artistic workshop based in Belgium. For more than 25 years, the Janssen family has been creating sculptural planters of exceptional character and integrity. Their pieces form an essential part of architectural projects around the world and can rightly be described as transgenerational. The difference between ordinary, widely available planters and those from Atelier Vierkant is profound.
A hand-crafted, fired clay planter will serve its owner for a lifetime without shifts in colour or quality—and can be passed on to the next generation. This is not mass production nor a serial product. These are, in essence, sculptural objects for home and garden. The clay itself is equally distinctive: sourced exclusively from specific regions in Germany and meticulously selected for its quality and properties. The making of Vierkant planters and garden statement pieces is highly demanding. Each item undergoes a long, careful process—from colouring the clay, through hand shaping and sculpting, to drying that can take weeks, during which it is regularly checked and, if needed, refined—before the final firing in unique kilns. No two pieces are ever the same. Each has its own story.


Colour options: according to swatch books:
- swatch book no. 1: core colours (pigmented body/clay – 9 colours); BLACK is always +10% surcharge on the base price
- swatch book no. 2: surcharge colour coatings (mostly for projects/special models, available to view with us)

Texture/surface: standard best-selling smooth, coarse base texture (web prices shown) + special surface finishes (see catalogue) – always made to order and subject to a surcharge on the planter price (contact us for a quote)

For outdoor use it is essential that the planter has a drainage hole; our in-stock pieces are manufactured with a hole, and for made-to-order items this requirement must be stated when placing the order

Production lead times for made-to-order planters currently range from 4–6 months depending on the planter type.

The manufacturer reserves the right, in certain cases, to require a minimum order quantity within a commission.
